York hotel leaves Somerston group

Today (1st February 2010), Somerston Hotels Ltd has concluded the sale of Ramada Encore York. Somerston constructed the hotel and has operated it since its opening in June 2002 and we wish the team every success for the future.The hotel remains open but will no longer trade under the Ramada Encore brand.

If you are a guest with an existing reservation and you have any queries relating to the change, please contact the new hotel company on 0871 984 5443*.

Guests who wish to continue using Somerston hotels whilst in the Yorkshire area can book our Holiday Inn Express Leeds City Centre hotel which is just 25.6 miles from York. This contemporary hotel offers en suite accommodation and all room rates are inclusive of complimentary hot breakfast.

Hot breakfast arrives at Holiday Inn Express

Hot on the heels of the introduction of our newly designed logo and signage is the arrival of hot breakfast at several of our hotels. Due to launch in every UK Holiday Inn Express by the end of March 2010, the improvements to the most important meal of the day include the introduction of hot sausage and scrambled eggs.

Holiday Inn Express Lincoln celebrates 1st anniversary

It seems like no time at all since Holiday Inn Express Lincoln City Centre welcomed its first guests, but a full 12 months has passed since the hotel opened.

To celebrate the hotel's first birthday Darren Spencer-Phillips, General Manager, invited local guests to join the hotel team for a special celebration including a performance by the cast of the local festive pantomime.

"The hotel has exceeded all of our expectations, even in some of the toughest trading condition in memory and I think that's testimony to the dedication of our team and the quality of our property," commented Darren. "I'm like a proud father today!"

Having firmly cemented their position as a great hotel in the heart of Lincoln, Holiday Inn Express looks set to have a very rosy future and many more anniversaries yet to come.

Somerston looks ahead to an exciting 2010

With 2010 fast approaching the team at Somerston are looking forward to what should be a busy and exciting year for the company.

The year will start with the remaining Express by Holiday Inn hotels moving to the new Holiday Inn Express branding. As well as a new look logo, the rebrand signifies other changes including:

  • new outdoor lighting, landscaping and design features
  • stylish touches in the lobby
  • friendly, efficient check-in service that recognises your needs
  • crisp new bed linens and a choice of firm or soft pillows

Perhaps the most anticipated new feature will be the introduction of hot items to our complimentary breakfast buffet. Over the course of the first three months of the year all of our Holiday Inn Express hotels will be adding sausages and scrambled eggs to their breakfast, meaning that the most important meal of the deal is about to get even better!

If all that wasn't enough, Somerston are also gearing up to open the Hampton by Hilton in Liverpool city centre. This brand new hotel is slated to open in spring and will be a fantastic new addition to our group.

The corporate sales team will also be keeping busy, rolling out the new Corporate Booking Tool facility to key clients and making sure that we continue to offer great value to our business guests.

New dinner menus launching 16th November 2009

Our latest dinner menus launch in 17 of our hotels on the 16th of November offering a wider choice of dishes designed to suit a variety of tastes. New items include macaroni cheese, half roast chicken and a tempting hot black forest sponge pudding.

Corporate booking tool to debut in November


Our corporate sales team work closely with clients and companies across the country, providing account support and negotiated rates at each of our 33 hotels nationwide. As an additional service for our clients we are now launching a brand new feature for our website which will allow clients to log-in to a private area of the website where they will be able to view and book at their special rates, contact their account manager, view the latest news from Somerston and learn more about our properties.

Hampton by Hilton Liverpool City Centre takes shape

It feels like just yesterday that we announced plans to launch our very first Hampton by Hilton hotel, but it's now just five months until the first guests will check-in at our newest hotel in Liverpool.

Construction work is well underway on site as the hotel really begins to take shape. The mezzanine level, gym, meeting and public areas will give a fabulous first impression and guests can't failed to be impressed with the cool, contemporary guestrooms.

Free hot breakfast coming soon at Holiday Inn Express

Times may be tough economically but we understand that we need to move with the times to ensure that our guests continue to be thrilled with the facilities we offer. A major change is afoot within Holiday Inn Express which we believe make the brand really stand out from the competition.... free, yes free, hot breakfast included in every room.

We believe in being open and honest about what it costs to stay in a Holiday Inn Express, so we include breakfast as standard. That means two adults and two kids can share a guestroom and enjoy hot breakfast at a great value price. In addition to Kellogg's cereals, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks and breads you'll also soon be able to enjoy scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage at no extra cost.

We'll be introducing hot breakfast in every Holiday Inn Express by the end of March 2010.

We recently announced that we were working on an exclusive booking facility for key corporate clients and we're thrilled to announce that it will launch in November. Our corporate sales team will be contacting a few clients to trial the system in the coming weeks, and we'll gradually be inviting more and more of our clients to use this great new tool as we move into 2010.

Change is happening

We're thrilled to be involved in the a major relaunch of the Holiday Inn brand, and you'll spot changes at our hotels in coming months. The biggest change is the name - Express by Holiday Inn will become Holiday Inn Express - and new logos and signage will indicate the change.

There’s much more to the rebrand than simply replacing the signs and changing the logo however. Over two years more than 18,000 people took part in research to find out exactly what matters most to our guests. We discovered that 90% of what’s important to guests is a modern, clean, safe property with efficient, friendly service that affords a great night’s sleep. To put it simply, you told us what you want and we listened. By the end of March 2010 all of Somerston's Express hotels will bear the new Holiday Inn Express insignia and you'll be able to enjoy:

  • Re-designed logo and signage
